About the Vighnahar Temple Ozar
  

The Vighnahar Temple is located inOzar in Junnar Taluka of  Pune district Maharashtra.Ozar is hardly at a distance of ten kilometers from Narayangaon, an important town on Pune-Nasik highway and on 85 Km from Nasik via Pune-Narayangaon.Ozar is situated on the banks of Kukadi River close to the Yedagaon dam built on it.The Temple was built in 1785 and re built in 1967 by a Ganesha Bhakta Shri Appashastri Joshi.The temple is dedicated to Lord Vinayaka ganesha.This temple is among one of Ashtavaiayaka temple in maharashtra.The temple is enclosed in a stonewall and houses two Overris. Apparently, this signifies the antiquity of the temple as the Overris or places of meditation are to be found only in temples of ancient origin.Idol of Vishneshwar Vinayak, faces east & its trunk turned towards left. The idols smeared in vermilion mixed with oil, has two emerald studded eyes & a diamond on his forehead & in the navel. The temple is east facing and has dimonds in eyes,on forehead and in naval.Riddhi-Siddhi stand on eithersides.These temples are major pilgrimage centres and each attracts 3,000 visitors daily. The number increases to one lakh on Chaturthi days.The temple has stone Dvarapala, the gate keepers and a row of musicians sculptured in the temple and also has a sculpture of Lord Ganesha enclosed with parrots, monkeys and foliage. History of  Vighnahar Temple Ozar


The History says that encompassing this idol states that Vighnasur, a demon was created by the King of Gods, Indra to destroy the prayer organized by King Abhinandan. However, the demon went a step further and destroyed all vedic, religious acts and to answer the people's prayers for protection, Ganesh defeated him. The story goes on to say that on being conquered, the demon begged and pleaded with Ganesha to show a mercy. Ganesha then granted in his plea, but on the condition that demon should not go to the place where Ganesha worshipping is going on. In return the demon asked a favour that his name should be taken before Ganesha's name, thus the name of Ganesha became Vighnahar or Vighneshwar (Vighna in Sanskrit means a sudden interruption in the ongoing work due to some unforeseen, unwarranted event or cause). The Ganesha here is called Shri Vighneshwar Vinayak.

There are small rooms designed for meditation, a grand entrance and a courtyard as well. Additionally, there is also a stone pillar called Deep Malas seen at the entrance apart from the Panchayatan statues. These statues grace the temple’s four corners.
The Vighnahar devasthan trust is developing modern amenities on the ten-acre plot surrounding the temple. The Rs 3-crore lodging facility comprises 50 single and 100 double bedrooms with air conditioning and 20 rooms for VIP visitors. Navnath Shastri Kawade, the Vighnahar devasthan trust's president, told TOI that the trust has so far spent Rs 3 crore on a bhakt nivas', lodging facility, which is almost complete. "The trust has also constructed two lodging facilities, costing around Rs 2 crore. The money was raised by the trust itself," said Kawade.He also said that the Vighnahar temple is the only Ashtavinayak temple which has its own lodging facility. Two Door Guards are carved in stone at both the sides of the main entrance of the temple. There are two verandas admeasuring 25-30 feet in length and 8 feet in width inside the main entrance of the temple. These verandas have graceful arcs. One of the verandas has a room in the basement and this room is used to store the Handis,Chandeliers and Palanquins of Lord Vighnahar.After entering through the main entrance there are foyersA 15 feet pathway is built between the foyers and verandas and used by the devotees to make rounds around the Lord Vighnahar. An idol of mouse made up of the smoothened black stone is affixed. This mouse can be seen as in “ready to run” position. The full size statue of Lord Vighnahar is mounted in sitting position at the third foyer under a graceful arc. The arc is beautifully painted. The statue of the Lord Vighnahar is east facing and has a trunk curved at left. Both the eyes carry rubies and a diamond is affixed on the forehead of the statue. The “Shendoor” is applied over an entire statue of Lord Vighnahar which covers the precious stone fixed in the naval of the statue.
